A view from the sleigh...
The Lettermen Christmas Tour 2011 is off and running! We have been very fortunate to already have 3 shows under our belts; 2 of which were sell outs! I am always amazed every night at the number of newcomers we have when Tony asks the audience: "how many of you are seeing the Lettermen show for the first time". Generally it seems there at least a 60% to 40 % ratio of newcomers to veterans. I love that! It means to me that this music is timeless and continues to recruit new listeners. I also call that "job security"!
The shows have been getting tighter every night. I figure that at the rate I'm going I'll get it right about December 18th.... ! So far, I've just been trying to stay out of the way and not cause too much of a distraction to Tony and Donovan when I don't have any idea what song is next or where I'm supposed to go on the stage. I can only hope that when we sing these great songs, people will forget that I sometimes look like a chicken with my head cut off running around the stage....
In my opinion the highlights of the show are Donovan's "Oh, Holy Night", Tony's "Mary's Boy Child", both of which I listen to every night from the wings and get goose bumps. It's such an honor to share the stage with these guys again.
Another of the highlights of the tour so far came during the "12 Days of Christmas", when Michael Parker, a special needs young man, sang with us. I don't think there was a dry eye in the house as he belted out "10 Lords -A-Leaping" with great pride and joy. It really is what this whole tour is all about. Love. He has it in spades... Merry Christmas, Michael and everyone else out there who has supported us over the years. I hope we come close enough to your home town for you to come join us as we celebrate the "Most Wonderful Time Of the Year"!!!!
Next stop, Cerritos, California! Sunshine and Santa, what a nice combination...
Merry Christmas to all,
Bobby
